Can I Do Spring Cleanup Myself?

The smell of hot dogs on the grill, the color green sneaking its way back into the landscape, kids playing outside just a little bit later in the evening, the lift of seasonal depression, muddy shoes, or that undefeated sweatshirt-in-the-morning-shorts-in-the-afternoon outfit are all signs pointing to one thing: spring has arrived in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
With a stronger, more “real” winter than last year, spring cleanup is a bit more important this year. Prepping your lawn for summer is key to having a happy, healthy yard for the next few months. But do you have what it takes to conduct spring cleanup yourself? There’s only one way to find out.
Do You Like Being Outside in the Spring?
Yeah, that might be a silly question, huh?
Spring cleanup does require you to, you know, get outside a bit and enjoy the fresh air. For many Minnesotans and Wisconsinites, that’s not usually an issue at any time of year, but especially after winter melts away. Spring lawn care is a nice excuse to spend time outside, cleaning up around the house and getting your yard and garden ready for the months ahead.
What Are Your Plans for Your Yard and Garden This Year?
Depending on what you want to do with your space, you can probably do your own spring cleanup. If you’re planning on maintaining the suburban status-quo this summer and keeping your yard and garden mostly the same, you’re good to go. Gather up those garbage bags, your rake, some gloves, and your favorite yard work playlist (we’re still working on the official SunKissed Soundtrack!).
Got some big plans for the upcoming year? Thinking about some landscaping projects or other outdoor makeovers? You can definitely still do your own spring lawn care, especially if you want to save a few bucks now and put that toward your project. However, getting a professional team on board early can help with the planning and preparation.
Our team at SunKissed Landscapes can come in during spring cleanup and evaluate the state of your yard, gathering ideas and making a plan while even getting ahead on certain things, such as garden bed preparation, yard or retaining wall adjustments, and so on. Can’t decide what you want to do this spring and summer? Give us a call and we can walk you through your options!
Do You Have the Means to Get Rid of Debris?
What kind of power does your incinerator take?
Just kidding (mostly). Unless something crazy happened in your yard over the winter, you probably don’t have a ton to dispose of that can’t be put in your normal garbage can. However, there are plenty of instances we’ve come across where homeowners in Minnesota and Wisconsin do need to find alternative ways of getting rid of the debris in their yard!
Spring cleanup may require tree and shrub trimming, garden preparation, and plain ol’ garbage pickup. This can really begin to add up, and not all garbage is created equal. Consider what can go in your garbage bin, and what you need to dispose of in a different way.
Are Your Kids Doing Anything?
Sure, you can do spring cleanup yourself, but what are your kids doing? Get ‘em out there and get their hands dirty.
Spring Cleanup The Easy Way
For many people, the answer is yes - you can do spring cleanup yourself. It’s a great way to get outside, get fresh air, and enjoy spring in Minnesota and Wisconsin. As long as you make sure you know what spring lawn care entails, then by all means, feel empowered to take your lawn to the next level!
You should know, too, that you don’t have to do it yourself. Enjoying your yard and garden shouldn’t be a chore, and there are local landscapers (ahem) who are here to help make the outside of your home spick and span, so you can sit back and relax all season long. Whether you’re looking for spring lawn care near you, or need someone to run your landscaping ideas by, SunKissed Landscapes is here to help! Send us a message or give us a call this spring to get your yard in tip-top shape!
